Myymälä2, one of Helsinki’s most respected alternative galleries, celebrates 10 years of activity.
Founded in 2002 by Jani Joenniemi and Gareth Hayes, the artist-run gallery was created to
provide a platform for experimental and cross-disciplinary art at a time when this concept was
still rare in Helsinki.
Since relocating to Uudenmaankatu, Myymälä2 has become known for its boundary-breaking
exhibitions and independent spirit. Operating outside the commercial gallery system, it functions
as a cooperative dedicated to experimental projects and collaboration across artistic fields.
Over the past decade, Myymälä2 has hosted more than 150 exhibitions, concerts, and design
events, presenting Finnish and international artists, designers, and musicians.
The anniversary exhibition highlights key moments from the gallery’s history and features new
works by artists connected to its program. Special events, including concerts and talks, will take
place throughout the exhibition.
