The exhibition Nykyajan Utopia consists of a series of six paintings. This utopia represents a chapter the
artist was experiencing in his life at the time. The faces depicted portray individuals immersed in a
contemporary world saturated with information that dissolves at an accelerated pace.
The exhibition draws on the theory of the “liquid world,” developed by Polish sociologist Zygmunt
Bauman. The theory reflects on a time when concepts such as ideas, ideologies, relationships, and
modes of interaction were considered solid. Throughout the twentieth century, marked by technological
advancements, political conflicts, and wars, this solidity reached both its apex and its decline.
Postmodernity introduced a state of liquidity, dissolving divisions and barriers, occupying spaces, and
eroding certainties, beliefs, and practices.
Although the works are paintings on canvas, Fabu Pires incorporates collage techniques, constructing
compositions in multiple layers. Each element appears to float independently, reinforcing the idea of a
fluid, unstable, and constantly shifting world.
